What the building does not have is a SIM desk, a currency exchange or reliable arrivals WiFi, and the island has no Uber or buses. Grace Bay is only about ten minutes away by road, so the gap is short, but it is the stretch where you are finding a taxi, collecting a rental car or following directions to a villa you have never seen. Neither Flow nor Digicel sells SIM cards at the airport. Do the setup at home, on home WiFi
Buy and install the Turks and Caicos eSIM the evening before you fly, and label it clearly in your phone's settings, for example TCI data, so it is easy to pick out later.
Switch lines as the plane taxis to the stand
Turn on the TCI line for data and turn off data roaming on your home line. That stops an AT&T or Verizon day pass from starting on the first background refresh. Keep the home line on for texts if you want your US number reachable.
Message ahead from the immigration line
Tell the villa or rental company you have landed and roughly how long the queue looks. That is more useful than a second attempt at the WiFi in the departure lounge on your way home.
On departure day, the lounge hotspot is a backup at best. The international departure lounge is on two levels, with seating, a bar serving food and an outdoor viewing deck upstairs, and a paid lounge not linked to any credit card or airline programme. In practice, expect 28 to 34 dollars for two people to a Grace Bay hotel. The common surprise is a price quoted per person and then multiplied at the destination, so agree the total for your whole party, including luggage, before you get in. Private and VIP transfers, usually Suburbans or Escalades, cost more but wait for you at the arrivals exit, and some villas include a pickup.
Outlying villas cost more
Drivers charge extra for places where they are unlikely to find a return fare, such as Sapodilla Bay, Taylor Bay, Chalk Sound, Northwest Point and the Malcolm's Road coast. Those are also the addresses a driver is least likely to know, so have the villa's pin ready to share from your phone.
Collecting a Rental Car and Driving Away on Data
The tourism authority recommends that most visitors rent a car, and many firms deliver to the airport. Economy cars start at about 50 dollars a day. The drive to Grace Bay is simple: follow Leeward Highway east past the downtown area to the Gateway to Grace Bay roundabout at its end, then take the short Allegro Road into the centre of Grace Bay. For anyone collecting a car on the way home: the airport car park takes cards only, with no cash, and charges 2 dollars an hour, 25 a day or 175 a week. It is small and sometimes full. There are no security staff in the car park, so leave nothing valuable in view.

Domestic flights to Grand Turk and North Caicos leave from the same terminal, and 45 minutes is usually enough for check-in on a domestic hop. For departures home, the Airports Authority asks international passengers to arrive two hours before their flight, not earlier, because the check-in hall gets overcrowded, and warns that the clock on the flight information screens is often wrong.
